The way the world eats at present is unsustainable and unhealthy for the environment, animals and ourselves. It is not possible for the meat industry has to produce meat to feed the growing population by 2050. Moreover, little is talked about where our food comes from in Singapore. Our aim is to bring cell-based seafood to your table, which is health-, animal- and environment-friendly, by growing cells instead of animals in the lab. Not only will our seafood have the same taste and texture, it will be even more nutritious and sustainable than farmed or wild-caught seafood. In this talk, I will share the background and technology of cell-based meats and also the journey of setting up Shiok Meats - an independent bio/food-tech startup in Singapore.
